Family Shots

Just a few family shots I wanted to share...

Dragonett Lad "Not Tired, not tired not........"

It was so funny, he was perched on the edge of the chair, only one butt cheek holding on and his leg were the only things stopping him from sleeping on the floor!

Nothing better than mud and water play with your friends!

Creative Bargains

I found the BEST bargains lately - with very little available cash I might add - LOL

Went to one of my favorite Op Shops and found some very nice bargains in their craft section. I didn't have the cash on me that day, so asked if I could pick it up the next day, that was fine. My friend said she would swing by and grab it and when she got there, it was half price day! YAY!

So for a total of $15 I got the following...
8 hoops - two of the biggest ones are also ready gone to the kids, they will be back eventually! lol

Now, here is the one I was most excited about... two boxes FULL of sorted (aaaaahhhhhh, my compulsive but denied need for order fulfilled!!) embroidery threads

Along with some patterns and aida cloth (which I have already used YAY) - What a screaming bargain!!!

I have heaps more, but haven't yet sorted it out! Be back soon

Our Tadpole "Classes"

Well, I blogged about our tadpoles before and we were excited to see that they were finally growing up!!
Here is our first to be "mobile" - very froggy looking now!!

The rest are still at hind legs only, but are growing some lovely bumps at the front!
As of tomorrow, we will be moving Mr Advanced to the Frog Tank while we wait the rest to catch up!
We have also been working on book work - Dragonett Lass has finished off 3 work books in the past two weeks!! That is fantastic for her! She is really trying to do books that are a little ahead of her learning at the moment, but I figure I will honour her wishes as they are stretching her quite a bit - we'll see how she copes. This is actually a great step forward for her. In the past she has been quite worried about 'getting it right', as I'm sure I have blogged about before. At the moment, she is concentrating more on figuring it out, so am excited to see where it leads!!

We have also had a craft explosion here - Here are just a few samples of what has been created...

Painting - a note here, Dragonett Lass doesn't often paint 'things' or people, generally she just paints, but lately she has been focusing on painting things and scenes, it is quite amazing to see the changes as she becomes more imaginative and creative.

We have been tossing up the idea of moving into a caravan for a while and Dragonett Lass drew her own design of what she thinks the perfect 'house with wheels' looks like...

Dragonett Lad doing his first wool creation. Using the glue stick and cut up bits of wool, he played with sticking them to his paper. He had so much fun working out the stickiness of the glue, the relationship between the three items, gorgeous!

And here are the kids all making Treasure Boxes with some cake boxes we got from Freecycle (well, Dragonett Lad got gypped and only had paper, but hey, he thought it was all the same thing - LOL)

All we have left to do now is the inside - line it and finish off the decorations.

We were recently given a fabulous book from a friend - Science With Plants. Its a really great little book designed for the younger children.

We started off with seedlings - Dragonett Lass is very excited to see them split and start to germinate

Dragonett Lass has also graduated from her (cardboard)box violin to her 'real' violin last week. She is really coming along with this and is finally happy to do her practicing. I'm quite jealous to be honest!!

That is only a few of the things we have done over the past few weeks -
Home schooling sure is fun!! :)

Our Crafty Week

I recently got a wonderful deal at my local Op Shop on craft items (will blog that soon) and one night, decided I should kick into gear. As I couldn't find my pattern making program (will have to drag the old computer out of the back room retirement) I went with the first thing in my head - ...

I really struggled with the gas mask but overall, I loved this one! I showed it off on a forum I hang out on and someone wanted it - I warned them it wasn't fabulous, but they insisted, so I have posted it off to its new home!

Then, we had an explosion of crafties here - paint is the name of the day all week here!

Then, once Dragonett Lass cleaned her room, she found a game she had forgotten about, so off to the floor. To distract Dragonett Lad from the apparently enthralling Princess dominoes game (much to the complete horror and frustration of his sister) he got set up with a biscuit cooling tray and wooden pegs - ahh the simple life always wins out!!!!

When we went to the Educational Store for our paint, we found some colored laces for threading games there - much better than the shoelaces we had been using.
Dragonett Lad was immediately into the new (to us - read as secondhand of course) threading blocks.
Kept him occupied for a whole 3 minutes!!! LOL

Then, to our total surprise, Dragonett Lass decided that her room needed dusting RIGHT THEN AND THERE!! I had to take a photo for future reference!!!

Now I am aware that I mixed the tags today, but I am very under the weather, so I pray that I am forgiven.

Night All

A big Hey to my Gothise visitors!!

Sending out a huge gidday to the members of Gothise.

A little while back I got a hit from Gothise.
I figured it was someone looking up dragons, or clothing or some such thing.
Then I got more. And then More. Then it started showing up as a link in my stats.
I have friends already on there, so I knew a bit about it and had already signed up, but I don't participate - not my thing really, and I tend to worry about the youngsters on there.

Anyway, as I have gone over 200 visits from Gothise just this month alone, I was wanting to extend the hand of friendship and welcome you all in.

From an Ex-Goth now Mumma to youse all, hey!

Herbal Teas

For over a month - nearly 2 actually, this house was infested with colds and flu. Snotty noses, coughs, conjunctivitis, sore throats - you name it, we had it. As soon as one person started feeling better, everyone else would be sick and drag them back down with them. It was a nasty case of round robin. We had antibiotics, fruit coming out our ears, fluids, hand sanitiser, soap at every tap, boxes and boxes of tissues on every surface considered flat enough - it was HORRIBLE. The baby had it the worst, and because we all co sleep, we were simply breathing on each other and continuing the cycle. We were completely housebound for about 3weeks - the poor kids nearly went insane from cabin fever!

Worst of all - there was no end in sight!!

Then, on Joyous Birth Forums, there were some fundraising for Lisa Barrett (whom you know about from previous posts) and one of the fundraisers was Blissful Herbs. She had a Cold and Flu Tea for sale, in desperation and in support of the worlds best birth worker, I bought a packet. When it arrived, I could smell it while it was inside the letterbox!

We opened it as we were heading out and the car was FILLED with the most delightful aroma!! I couldn't WAIT until we got it home!

As soon as we got in our front door, I had the kettle boiling and the mugs set up. Just waiting for he kettle to boil - leaving the package open, the kitchen smelt so clean and fresh! Everyone got a mug with a dollop of honey and milk for the kids and Dragonett Lad downed his and asked for more! Dragonett Lass took a day to get used to the flavour, but by day three, was asking for hers too.

Also, by day three, the continuous fluro green discharge from the kids noses had completely dried up! The racking coughs were gone and their energy level had shot through the roof!!

I simply couldn't believe it! It was that quick.

Since then, I have noticed that if they miss their daily tea, they will get snuffly and a random cough will crop up here and there (DragonPapa was balking at the tea and so he remained slightly snotty and fluey, so there was still nasties just waiting to reinfect my dragonetts). So we have kept up with the teas. And haven't been sick since!

DragonPapa caved two days ago and started to drink his daily tea, a little too late as he now has a nasty chest infection - so am pumping him full of tea, will update and let you know how it goes!

But the range Blissful Herbs has, we will definitely be repeat buyers. I am in the process of recommending them to all and sundry - honestly, give them a try - Wonderfully smelling, delicious and surprisingly cheap for what you get!! What could be better??

Mentality of People Astounds me!

Okay, Ranty McRanty post ahead here. Just letting you know.

I like blogs. That is obvious. I actually run three blogs and am a member of about 4 others with editing rights. They are brilliant for saying what you want, remembering things, informing friends or family of interesting daily tidbits and for those Ranty McRanty's who like to say their piece of mindless drivel without having to think about the consequences. Well, it bit one such woman on the butt lately!!

I won't post the link, as I feel that she is getting off on the attention, but any decent forum would have already linked it anyway.

She's a Catholic SAHM of oodles of children and her ranty mcranty was about how the world is essentially going to hell in a handbasket, because of all the GAYS OUT THERE!!

*run screaming off into the distance*

Oh Noes, She was subjected to the horrifying vision of a (supposedly) lesbian couple at the park. They were sharing a moment with a young bubba on the swings, and her 'extra senstive' ability to sense danger, she was horrified. How DARE two people hug in public?? IMO, they should be thrown in the stocks and have rotten vegetables pelted at them!! Even WORSER, a gay couple at the local pool were seen to be ...

*please ensure that all children and other impressionable persons are out of the room*

Look, in all seriousness, she obviously believes in the Westboro Baptist philosophy of hating people. I don't get it personally. As a Fundamental Christian myself (Fundy in that I believe the Bible has it right) I don't get this hatred of others. I just don't!

Jesus was the living embodiment of Love One Another. He was simply Love Personified. So this outward hatred seems to be in direct conflict with Jesus and his teachings.

But that's not really what I wanted to say today. What I wanted to say was this.

1) For those that believe that the Bible itself (and therefore God Himself) has forbidden homosexuality (Not that it actually says it anywhere - those supposed sections are very open to interpretation), therefore are simply following the dictates of the Bible, I am also assuming that you follow ALL dictates of the Bible? I'm not getting into it, 'cause frankly, I have better things to do, but I can probably be safe in saying that they don't. Sabbath, idolatry, adultery, that sort of thing. Hmmmm..... I would actually bet money on that!

2) WHO CARES?? Really?? Your kids saw someone being affectionate with a member of the same sex? SO what?  In any society, positive expressions of affection are something that should be encouraged. It is not sexuallizing our children to let them see happy, positive relationships - in fact, I would go so far as to say its something our children should see MORE of. SO many families are in danger from Domestic Violence. SO many children only see violence and shame in relationships, is it any wonder we are struggling with our youth? To say that a homosexual couple hugging is sexuallizing YOUR children is ridiculous!! Do you put your children in those horrific Child Pageant's? In my opinion, THEY are 10000000000x worse than any witnessed positive affection between two people! Have you looked at the magazines and cartoons aimed at young children? In my opinion, THEY are the reason our children are being sexuallized at a young age - NOT because a random gay couple hugged in front of you!!

As for those questions of "Well, how/what do YOU tell children about the evil gays?" *roll eyes*

We have gay friends - when my daughter asked why her friends had no daddies, I simply said this

"Sweetie, some families have one mumma and one daddy, like us. Some families have only a mumma OR a daddy like XXXX's family. Some have two daddies and some have two mummas, like XXXX's family. Some have step mums and step dads. Some have Grandparents that live with them or cousins. All families are different, as long as everyone loves everyone and treats them with love and respect, that's all that matters"

Quite honestly, she lost interest about halfway through. All she wanted to know was why XXXX had two mums and where their dad was. She really didn't care about family structure.

Because, its an adult structure. An Adult Concept. For her, all she cares about is that her friends are happy and cared for. She doesn't care WHO does the caring, only that they are CARED FOR.

And I think this is the important bit here - Right Here! No Matter in what family dynamic you find your place, as long as you are loved, supported and cared for and safe, does anything else really matter?

Look, I could go on, but basically it is this. For the Christains who are homophobic because 'God Says So', Jesus came and rewrote all the rules, he said Love one another, follow the Laws of Moses, Believe in Me and do good works. He didn't add on "oh, and hate the gays". That was YOU.

To Give Or Not To Give, is THAT the Question?

1 John 3:17-18

If anyone has material possessions and sees his brother in need but has no pity on him, how can the love of God be in him? Dear children, let us not love with words or tongue but with actions and in truth.

This is something that comes up regularly in my life. We have never hidden the fact that we tend to struggle from time to time and that without the love and support of my dearest friend, we would be in a lot more trouble than we were. One thing that seems to tick people off about us (thankfully not my dear friend who understands better than I do) is that we will give even when we are ourselves struggling.

We don't tithe, that was something that as a family, we came to the decision to do (or not do). Instead, we give to those than God brings into our lives, in the various ways that He works. As we come to the end of our own heavy struggle time, it has impressed on us just how much we have to be thankful for.

We have a roof over our heads, food on our table and clothes on our backs and we are safe. We even have a few luxuries as well! This is a lot more than many people have in the world today.

Over the years, I have bought fridges, washing machines, beds, kitchen items, outfitted complete houses, clothed people and fed them. I have donated my time, money and effort. Not nearly as much as I should though.

Now I'm not saying this to get kudos, in fact, I tend to do it privately - sometimes even the person receiving it doesn't know who we are. I do it because God asks it.

It really is as simple as that.

God asked me to.

He asks all His children to.

Now, I am honest when I say I do not give all the times I should. This is something I am working on.

But the reason for this post was something that was said to me today.

"But Why? They might be ripping you off? How do you know that they aren't ripping you off?"

My response was "So? God didn't say 'Only give to those that are actually truly NEEDING it, He said 'Give Freely'" Didn't go down well. Apparently, in many peoples eyes, you only give to those YOU deem 'worthy'. I have seen it all too. "I don't give to people on the streets that are smoking, because MY money is only for food or 'important' things" Replace smoking with drinking/homelessness/brand name clothing/whatever. "I don't give because I need it all for us" "I would never give because they might not be legit" "But they probably don't REALLY need it because..." and the list goes on.

Basically, for those that are nodding their heads and secretly agreeing with the previous comments, I don't agree.

In my mind and belief, God didn't say "Give only to those that you think deserve it" He said "Give Freely" Freely, with a joyful heart. If someone is going to 'rip me off' does that make my giving any less important? Does it make my joyful heart any less important? Does God care about MY giving or someone else's receiving? How do I know His plans? All I can do is watch my own life and lead it as best as I can, I have no control over the lives of others. By my honoring God's word, I am already fulfilled. I am already Honored in His Temple. Regardless of how that money is used, it is gone from my hands, therefore, it is gone from my mind.

What was the point of this post?

Two things - To remind people that God knows us. He knows what we need. He has asked us to do this. Who are we to say No?
                 - To remind myself. I was recently in a position where I felt that God was asking me to Give Freely. I gave. But then God said "No, I want you to give freely." I felt I didn't understand, hadn't I just given? "No" He said, "Give FREELY" and I then understood He meant for me to give without boundaries, without guessing, without negotiating. I fought Him, I said "I can't, I NEED this money for my own family" I negotiated, I bargained, I argued and I didn't give. Then, I found out that had I given freely, the situation might have gone differently. For all of us.

So, I too am working on my Give Freely. All we can do, is learn and strive to be those People God has designed.

So next time someone asks, don't let the negative voices talk you out of it, just reach in and help - you will be helping in more ways than just cash.

Matthew 6:3-4

3 But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, 4 so that your giving may be in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you

2 Corinthians 9:7

Each man should give what he has decided in his heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.

Luke 6:30

30 Give to everyone who begs from you, and from one who takes away your goods do not demand them back.

Luke 6:32-38

6:32 “If you love those who love you, what credit is that to you? For even sinners love those who love them. 6:33 And if you do good to those who do good to you, what credit is that to you? For even sinners do the same. 6:34 And if you lend to those from whom you hope to be repaid, what credit is that to you? Even sinners lend to sinners, so that they may be repaid in full. 6:35 But love your enemies, and do good, and lend, expecting nothing back. Then your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High, because he is kind to ungrateful and evil people. 6:36 Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful. 6:37 “Do not judge, and you will not be judged; do not condemn, and you will not be condemned; forgive, and you will be forgiven. 6:38 Give, and it will be given to you: a good measure, pressed down, shaken together, running over, will be poured into your lap. For the measure you use will be the measure you receive.”

Life Cycles

Okay, having FINALLY figured out how to avoid using Bloggers crappy photo download system (RAGE inducing bullshit) we can now put photos on the blog!! So Here's the latest...

In our house at the moment, we are looking at life cycles. After our visit to the Nature Education Centre and the purchase of our tadpoles, we had been on the lookout for caterpillars. Well, on a wander down our long driveway to check the water meter and the mailbox, we noticed that we had a proliferation of caterpillars, so we collected a bucket load and tons of leaves and carried them home and set them up in new homes in the kitchen.

With cut up stockings, we figured out a way to seal the tops, while allowing air and moisture to have free flow!

Then we headed back down, and Dragonett Lass took her own photos of the caterpillars and their food source.

And finally, here they are, positioned next to the tadpoles, ready for their next life stage!

After this was all set up, we googled what type of caterpillar we had - Woolly Bear Caterpillars that will turn into Tiger Moths! We did a story page about them, using Dragonett Lass' words and photos and a hand drawn life cycle of butterflies and moths!

Imagination Time

Alas, poor neglected blog! Unfortunately, Blogger seems to be having some technical difficulty in downloading my pictures, so I attempt to download them, they come out looking REALLY funky, I get pissed, throw a tantie and nothing gets blogged. Exhibit A -

Well, I have some updates for you! Lets see if they will happen tonight!

At our last Craft Day, we made Puppet Theaters. Boxes, pictures and sticks, with some scrap fabrics.

We did "Goldilocks and the Three Bears"

Complete with table with three bowls!
My friend did her version of Goldilocks - no breaking and entering, no stealing, no busting up of other people things - much nicer too!
